ETERNAL PLEASURE AND OTHER RANDOM THOUGHTS

This is it. The payoff for all those hours spent peering at a blank screen and stressing out over every word and phrase. Eternal Pleasure hits bookshelves everywhere (I hope). Okay, so technically it hit some bookshelves last week, but this is the official BIG DAY.

I bet some of you are wondering, “So what’s the big deal? You write a book, send it in, and wait for it to go on sale. No sweat.” Hah. Let me tell you the many, many ways I find to drive myself crazy.

First we have the story itself. Will readers like the plot? Will they think it’s too, well, out there? Fine, so all of my plots are out there. Will they think its exciting enough, sexy enough, and on and on and on? Oh, and don’t forget the characters. Will they think the characters are sympathetic? Will they want to read more books about the same characters? Or, horror of horrors, will they find the characters shallow and unlovable?

Once I finish worrying about the story, it’s time to move on to the cover. Is the guy on the cover hot enough? Will impulse buyers pick up the book to take a closer look at him? Does the cover pop or just blend in with the rest of the books on the shelf? And why didn’t they give me foil embossed lettering on my cover? Is the publishing house trying to tell me something? Am I no longer worthy? Wait. My name and title do have a metallic shine. Whew. They must still like me.

Next comes the back cover blurb. Does it grab readers by the throat and shake them until they absolutely have to buy the book? Does it make extravagant promises of unspeakable pleasure if they’ll only spend their hard earned money on this book?

I bet now you’re thinking, “Enough. There can’t possibly be anything else to worry about.” What, you have no faith in my ability to make something out of nothing? There are tons of things to leave me sleepless. What will reviewers say? How should I promote this book? How will I make time to blog, keep up with mail, write my next book, have a life? It doesn’t take long to realize that something has to go. Yeah, so having a life is overrated anyway.

From all the whining above, you probably think I must hate what I do. Not so. I worked at quite a few different jobs in my life, and nothing, nothing gave me the satisfaction I get from completing a story and knowing I’ll be sharing my characters with readers who may never meet me, but who will hopefully enjoy my books. I feel blessed.

And for those of you who are thinking, “Wow, she’s insecure,” here’s my theory. I believe that on the day that I become too comfortable with what I’m writing, too sure that there’s nothing left to improve, too laid back about my career, I’ll stop growing as a writer. A little angst keeps me humble and motivated. There are tons of talented writers out there, and to convince readers to choose my books I have to keep getting better.

And now for a question that has nothing to do with the above subject. When I finish my present work in progress, Eternal Promise, I’ll be returning for another peek into Ganymede’s and Sparkle’s lives. I’d been planning to set this book at the Woo Woo Inn. But a lot of readers have told me now much they liked the Castle of Dark Dreams books. So here’s the question. Should my next Mede and Sparkle book take place at the Woo Woo Inn or the Castle of Dark Dreams? Of couse, you can always mess up my little poll by choosing none of the above.

I’ll stop now because my deadline for this next book is looming. I hope you’re enjoying a memorable summer blast. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

  1. I loved Eternal Pleasure and finished it quickly. I now want more, of course. Do you know when the next book is slated for release and how many do you plan to do in this series?

    Thank you!!

  2. Nina -
I love all your books. Your characters always grab me right from the start. I just finished reading the first book in your new series, “Eternal Pleasure” and I can’t wait for the rest of the books -like how about yesterday :o) Only kidding, but I am looking forward to the next in the series. Actually I’m looking forward to any book you write. Thanks so much for keeping me entertained and keep up the great work!

by Elaine on July 6th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

  3. Because your books are an automatic buy for me I was at the bookstore on July 1st ready to pick up “Eternal Pleasure” the day the store put it on the shelf. It grabbed me from first page and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Only bad thing, now I have to wait for the next one. I love Sparkle and Ganymede as well. Thanks so much for all the entertainment.

  4. Nina~
I just wanted to say that Eternal Pleasure was a great book and now I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I can’t get enough of the alpha males that go bump in the night. I hope you never run out of new material to write about. Thank you.

  5. I have not had a chance to pick Eternal Pleasures up yet, but I will be very soon. I loved the Castle of Dark Dreams books. I picked up my first of your books, Wicked Pleasure, about a year ago. Since then I have read 14 of your other titles. I’m working on getting the other 2 I haven’t read yet, which are An Original Sin & Men at Work. Sparkle & Ganymede are so much fun, I’d really love an update on eveyone in the casle. Thank you for creating so many enjoyable characters.

by Tammy on July 7th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

  6. Eternal Pleasures reaches a realm never before ventured into. Unbelievable doesn’t begin to describe it. The Woo Woo inn is great but I love the Castle as well. You’ll just have to write more books for both. Any chance we’ll see pics and bios on your website in the future for the Gods of the Night???

by Susan on July 8th, 2008 at 8:33 pm

  7. Eternal Pleasures looks like a fantastic book, I can’t wait to read it.
As for the next Sparkle and Ganeymede book? Doesn’t matter where you set it, I’ll read it! *G*

by Brandy on July 9th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

  8. I loved it. Like many others out there I can’t wait for the rest. I love the plot and the fact that I have so many questions only makes the wait for the next harder to bear.. Please, please say Fin will have his own book. From my viewpoint the badder the better and he looks to be the grandaddy of them all. Nina Bangs has made a fan for life!!

by Deana on July 11th, 2008 at 11:48 am

  9. Nina,
    In response to your question:
So here’s the question. Should my next Mede and Sparkle book take place at the Woo Woo Inn or the Castle of Dark Dreams?

MY Vote: Dark Dreams!!! What an amazing adventure…

    I’m game…

by Michele on July 14th, 2008 at 12:40 am

  10. I can tell you love what you do…It shows!

How about a story that goes from the Woo Woo Inn to the Castle or vise versa.

I haven’t had the pleaseure of EP yet…its waiting in my TBR pile!

by Darla on July 15th, 2008 at 10:20 am

  11. Eternal Pleasure is my favorite Nina Bangs book to date! Somehow Ms. Bangs always makes completely unbelievable characters and scenarios believable.
Can’t wait for the next in this series.
And as far as the voting…DEFINITATELY the Castle of Dark Dreams!!!!

  14. I love all your books but Eternal Pleasure is my favorite. I love Sparkle and Ganymede and will read anything you write about them. But there is just something about Eternal Pleasures that I really can’t wait for the next book. Thank you for writing them.

by Vickif on July 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

  15. Nina,

I just finished Eternal Pleasure and I loved it! It is the first book of yours that I have read and now I am going to be hitting the bookstore to buy everything else you’ve written. It was a lot of fun for me that the book was set in Houston - I’m in Sugar Land and it was great to hear all the familiar street names and landmarks. I will be eagerly awaiting book #2 in The Gods of the Night. Thanks for giving me yummy Ty to dream about :).

by Angie on July 27th, 2008 at 12:15 am

  16. I have to admit, Eternal Pleasure has been the most intrancing book I’ve read in a long while. I instantly fell in love with it.

The funny thing is, it was a complete chance of me picking it up. I was in a reading slump-unable to find that right book. when I went to the corner store with my aunt and the cover caught my eye. I picked it up to read the back and thought why not…and now I’m glad…awsome job on it, I can’t wait for the second book. ^^

    and thank you. ^^

by Holly on July 27th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

I LOVED Eternal Pleasures and can’t wait for the rest of the stories, really interested in seeing the raptors’ story ;-) along with all the few characters already introduced. Looking forward to April for your next story!!!

I get a little anal about coming in 2 or 3 books later then I scramble trying to find the first books so that I can catch up. Keep up the wonderful work.

by **Patty** on September 24th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

  33. I just finished reading Eternal Pleasure and it was great, one of the best I have read in a long time. I completely understand about the characters throwing a hissy fit when they want things to go there way. Keep up the good work. It is always a pleasure to read your work.

by Patti on September 25th, 2008 at 10:08 am

  34. Hi Nina,
I grew up in League city, but have been living in Australia for the past 12 years. I haven’t read a book in about a year. It’s hard when you have a small child. I was just recently on the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise ship out of Sydney & was looking for a good book whilst my little girl was in the kid’s club. I saw ‘Houston’ in the book & liked the title Eternal Pleasure. Once I picked the book up I couldn’t stop reading it! I’m not usually into paranormal books, but you made the characters so interesting & I felt a bit home sick for Houston while I was reading it. I immediately fell in love with Ty & didn’t care what he was (just like Kelly). You are an excellent writer. I’m looking forward to the next book after this. Thanks for keeping me entertained while I was on my holiday!

by Heidi on November 1st, 2008 at 11:47 pm

  35. Hey Nina,
Long time no talk to! For the question posed: Woo Woo Inn or Castle of Dreams? How about a conglomeration. A meeting of the two. The owners invite the Castle of Dreams team to the Woo Woo Inn and/or vice versa for some huge gigantic plot with a sub plot of Sparkle and Gannymede getting preggers! What a hoot that would be! Have fun, take care, Winter is Here!

by Bonnie on November 4th, 2008 at 2:23 pm

  36. I love Sparkle and Mede! I think your next book should take place at the Castle of Dark Dreams with a side story at the Woo Woo Inn. I’d love to see something really wicked happen with Sparkle and Mede and maybe a little competition for Sparkle(just to keep her on her toes).

by Dana on November 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pm

  37. I loved the book “Eternal Pleasure”. It was given to me by my mom after she finished reading it, and se told me tat I would like it because of the paranormality in the book. I instantly got hooked on the book in two seconds. I am also wondering if you could tell me what te name of the next book is, I want to read it beore my mom this time. Also I love how you put dinosaurs, vampires, werewolves, demons, and aliens(?) in the book(just makes it more wanted). Keep up the good work.

by Tom on November 9th, 2008 at 8:39 am

  38. I read this book in one night and want more. I egerly awaite the next Gods of the night. I read many to many romance Novels and i can put 90% down and say “Nice story” I read yours a feel in love. You not only made the story well you gave it life. It left me saying “I want more” and searching for the next your best work yet. Soooo don’t hold out on use give us more. LOL thank you for a great book and a wonderful escape from reality.

by Austin Rolliens on November 11th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

by Jackie on November 18th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

  40. I just went to the bookstore this week and picked out six new books. I randomly grabbed Eternal Pleasure and read it like a bag of potato chips–just couldn’t put it down. I’m writing to say you did a fabulous job at building the characters. Even though it was early on when Ty had his first transformation, I was ready to believe. I’m not naturally a fan of science fic, so I have to really be invested in the characters to allow my imagination to soar. Dinosaur souls sound almost ridiculous to me, but you wove an intriguing tale and love story around it. Original ideas are still out there. Kudos!

by sandy on February 6th, 2009 at 4:00 am

  41. The waiting is killing me!!! Is it April Yet? I love every book you have written LOVE LOVE LOVE EM!

Im actually re reading the Woo-Woo Inn Trilogy again

  42. No worries Nina. I absolutely love your book, Eternal Pleasure, and I have to say I can’t wait for your next book or it’s trailer.
From your #1 fan forever!! XD

by Kathryn Lira on February 26th, 2009 at 10:04 pm

  43. I just wanted to say that I am a new and HUGE fan of your books. I first found the beginning story from the Mackenzie series and have to say I was hooked from the first page. Since then I have read all of that series along with the Castle of Dreams series. I am a huge fan of your exotic themes and funky supernatural characters. Of course the exciting connections between your herione and her hunky alpha male hero always keep me captivated. I agree with a previuos comment - that you should combine the Woo Woo Inn and the Castle of Dreams for Mede and Sparkle’s next adventure. Hope to read it soon!

by Kristy Baron on April 14th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

  44. WITH A BOOK SO CLOSE TO COMING OUT, YOU STILL HAVE NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR WEBSITE. GOTTA SAY THAT I AM DYING TO READ YOUR NEXT BOOK. AND CANT WAIT TILL SPARKLE STARDUST AND GANYMEDE HAVE ANOTHER URGE TO BE VERRY…….NOSEY.

by ELIZABETH PENN on April 26th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

  45. Nina, I just finished ‘Eternal Cravings ‘ and loved it more than ‘Eternal Pleasure’. Seems that you got into the story with more info than the first. I like that you are making the guys more human. Can’t wait for the next installment. Do you know when it will be out and can let us know what or who it is about? thanks , Mary

by Mary Avey on May 20th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

  46. I simply adored eternal pleasure and eternal craving. Especially
the charecters they are extremly lovable. Which brings me a question I have had since the first book do Seir and Fin get there own book? I wanted to know because they are my favorite charecters and I think they deserve a mate. Any way love your storys hope you write for a long time to come.

by danny on May 27th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

  47. I loved Eternal Pleasure and Eternal Craving. But, I’M CRAVING MORE!! When is Eternal Promise going to hit book shelves for sale?

by Kelly on June 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm

  48. I some how missed Eternal Pleasure and went strait to Eternal Craving. This is definetely different and I love it.

You asked Woo Woo Inn or the Castle of Dark Dreams. I liked Woo Woo Inn but I loved the Castle of Dark Dreams. I wish there really was a place like that. My friends and I would be there.

by carol on June 19th, 2009 at 10:03 pm

  49. Loved Eternal Pleasure - I loved the new world - so believable! I was wondering - is there any way that you could set up a ‘visual’ of the eleven’s souls? I’m so curious to see what they look like!

by Kelly on July 5th, 2009 at 4:11 pm

  50. I loved the “Castle of Dark Dreams” Series and am now on the third book in the “Mackenzie Vampire Series.” I absolutely love Ganymede & Sparkle Stardust and am having a difficult time trying to picture a book with them barely in it… Sparkle adds the perfect amount of humor ;) Although, I did like the character “Edge” I would love to see Finis in a love twist! That would be terrifyingly erotic! lol If anyone could pull that guy into a one woman man it would be you! I’m a big fan of your writting Nina! You are very inspiring and I feel a great connection with Sparkle! Thank you for your hard work and endless dedication to your readers. You have inspired me in many ways!

by Angie on July 16th, 2009 at 11:08 am

  51. Absolutely LOVE the Gods of the Night series. I’ve read both books, both within a couple days (can’t put them down). Looking forward to your next vampire book. I enjoy your sense of humor and how your stories make me smile and laugh. Thanks!
